Course Design

The sensational golf course at MeadowCreek Golf Resort is the work of golf course architect Bob Baldock and his son Robert L. Baldock. The senior Baldock is one of the most prolific and respected West Coast architects in history, having started his career working with legendary designer William P. ‘Billy' Bell.

A former Class A PGA golf professional, Baldock began planning his own designs in the early 1950s, working extensively throughout California, Oregon and Nevada. Eventually plotting more than 350 courses, Baldock lent his expertise in routing as well as his wisdom in shot values to clubs in 20 states—stretching from Maine to Hawaii and Washington to Florida. He also worked internationally in Mexico, the Philippines and Tahiti.

After studying at Fresno State College in California, his son Robert joined him in the business in 1968. Together, their designs are accommodating from the front markers with wide fairways and hard to locate hazards, but challenging from the back tees where proper placement and cunning are required to score well. Greenside, their small targets and proximity of nearby hazards complicate success, demanding talent in the up-and-down arena.

Baldock has received many awards during his half-century in the business, and has always given back to golf in equal or greater measure than he has taken from it. In 1984, Baldock was honored by the National Golf Foundation with an Outstanding Service Award, recognizing the many times he has donated his architectural services to Veteran Administration Hospitals, U.S. Air Force bases and small communities in big need of recreational services but lacking in budgetary means to achieve it.
